The I2C Mini Terminal is designed to use the two wires of the I2C bus for serial communication with an external computer such as an Arduino. It provides that external device with two services: display characters on an 8x2 LCD and retrieve activity from five pushbuttons arrayed for ‘up,’ ‘down,’ ‘left,’ ‘right,’ and ‘center’ — as is typical for a handheld remote control device. While the I2C Mini Terminal will work with most computers using I2C, it has been extensively tested for the Arduino and has an I2C and power connection designed to be compatible with another Smiley Micros product: the Arduino Proto Shield. These two devices can be joined by a special base kit to make the Arduino Handheld Prototyper.
